Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer—and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike's plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, "Sulley" (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair's out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University's elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right. “Monsters University” bravely explores themes of self-discovery and the revelations that come with growing up.
My Thoughts:
As a mom of a almost one year old and a 4 year old....we don't get out to the movies much. But this movie came out in theatres on a Friday and had it's first showing at our local theatre at 10 am.... and we were there. We just love these monsters... so when they were coming to Blu-ray we were thrilled because now we can watch this monstrously funny movie any time we want!
This prequel takes us back in time to the beginning of Mike's dream to become a scarer and his bumpy road to get to Monsters Inc. Along they way we get to meet Sulley and are witness to an unlikely friendship that blooms during silly, nerve wracking, and sometimes heartbreaking events. We also meet a whole new crew of monsters that are silly and lovable.
I loved how this movie connected to the original. My daughter was so excited to see Randall make his appearance at Monsters U, and she was even able to figure out why Randall becomes so mean to Sulley. Not to mention a fabulous cameo by Roz! I was so happy to see that it led us right up to Monsters Inc and we now have the whole picture of where these two monsters started out.
While I adore Mike and Sulley I have to say that my favorite characters in this movie were their team of misfits. Art, Terri with an I and Terry with a Y, Squishy, and Don are the most lovable monsters you will ever meet. They are the best friends Mike and Sulley could ask for and are braver than they think.
This is a must own film that will make family movie night a real scream!
