Dominion of New Zealand - Review

Dominion of New Zealand produces the finest quality sheepskin footwear and jackets. Whether it is boots or slippers for men or women or our stunning range of Made-To-Order Jackets you should expect the best. Using the finest sheepskin, shearling and lambskin, the Dominion range answers your demand for quality, comfort and style.

I read that and was sold. I am a sucker for a high quality pair of comfy slippers or shoes. I pretty much live in my slippers whenever I am home. Since I am such a huge fan I have gone through a countless number of cheap slippers that I have picked up here and there. I wear them to the point where their soft and fluffiness becomes nonexistent or there are holes at the bottom of the souls. So when I was browsing Dominion of New Zealand's selection of sheepskin footwear I could tell that they are built to last.
When the box arrived I turned green with envy.... the slippers were for men. Oh how my husband's eyes lit up. He right away tried them on to see if they would fit... and they did. I don't think he has taken them off since. It's funny too because I bought him a pair of slippers that he wore off and on for a few days and have no left the closet since. What makes these different that it would get him to wear them day in and day out?

This is what my husband had to say: "They are very comfortable and warm. I like how they fit and they aren't slippery when I walk on the tile or hard wood. I also think they look good because they are simple, a nice color, and a great material. I feel like the materials are very high quality and even the stitching looks precise." I think at one point he even used the word luxurious.

I slipped them on to give them a try and I really liked how soft the fur trim is. They are so warm and you feel like you're walking on soft fluffy clouds. Here is a little about this specific pair: Slip into the Emperor men's sheepskin slide and experience the ultimate in comfortable and fashionable slippers. This slip-on or scuffett-style slipper is made from 5/8in-6/8in of genuine twin-faced sheepskin wool designed to keep your feet warm whatever the weather. The suede leather sole with embossed Dominion brand will give you an incredible sense of comfort with every step. The nylon binding ensures a smooth, comfortable finish to the sole. These slippers come in a versatile chestnut color and men's sizes 5 to 11.

Dominion of New Zealand has an amazing selection of slippers for men and women, as well as boots and jackets. They are a little pricey, but it's clear you are getting what you pay for in high quality materials. I strongly encourage you to check out their great selection of products!

BornFree Review

As a mommy of a toddler I feel like I am always looking for new cups and trying new things. My daughter does great with the sippy cup but I have been wanting her to move to a cup with a straw to help move her to the next step. We tried one brand and my husband broke the straw as soon as we opened it while doing the initial cleaning. Then we tried another kind that she either didn't like or couldn't get the water out of because every time we handed it to her she handed it back and signed water.

So when BornFree gave me the opportunity to review some of their products I was definitely interested. I was familiar with BornFree because of their bottles, but I didn't know until this opportunity arose that they also offer training cups and drinking cups. As soon I as saw that I knew I had to give them a try.

I felt comfortable trying BornFree products because I know they pride themselves in providing safe and effective products that are all 100% BPA free. If you're not familiar with this chemical compound you can learn about it on the BornFree site.

For this review I received a set of 2 BornFree bottles and one Twist'n Pop cup. The bottles are great and I've heard about their wonderful reputation since my daughter was little. I have especially heard that they help reduce colic and ear infections. But what I was really anxious about was the Twist'n Pop cup.

I immediately opened it up to was and check out the parts. It's very simple with a spill proof valve, straw, twist top, cap, and bottle. Easy to take apart, clean, and put back together. It's also a really nice size... big! It holds a lot of water which is great my little one. I typically end up refilling her sippy by lunch time, so this is great.  Then I handed it over to see if she would take it and if she could get water out of it.
She willingly took it and has been very successful. We have been using it for several days and have only had one incident. I found the cup laying on it's side (as that's how she always seems to put the cups down) on the couch in a pool of water. After close examination I discovered that one of two things happened... I either tightened it too much or not enough. I think it may have been too much because it was on pretty securely. But I tested it again and again and it hasn't happened since. I think it was user error... hehe! I love the cup and will be getting more!

You can check out the Twist'n Pop and all the other BornFree Products on their website . You can also find retailers near you on their site.

Snow Day!

We are snowed in up here! Well, not really. We got hit hard and fast on Sunday into Monday. The plows didn't make it through our area until the middle of the day yesterday, and even then it still looked icy and snowy. So we didn't go anywhere yesterday. Today we decided to venture out and check out some after Christmas deals. The roads weren't too bad except for a few spots. But the sales were terrible! No body has any Christmas stuff left and things aren't marked down too much. Bummer. I guess it's better to stay home and play in the snow!

Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas Magic - Review and Giveaway

This is such a beautiful book. I am a huge fan of the entire Christmas season. I love everything that goes along with it from the decorations, to the music on the radio, to the family gatherings. It really is just such a magical time of the year. And now with a little one in the house the magic has really come alive for us through her eyes.

This Chicken Soup for the Soul book offers 101 magical stories about family, traditions, and the magic of Christmas. One of the things I noticed about this book was that it didn't have me reaching for the tissues. At least not in a sad way. The stories were all very heart warming. Some made me tear up simply because it was reminding me of my family traditions or reminding me of how good people can be to others. I was so happy to be able to really enjoy this book this holiday season in a happy way.

This would make a wonderful gift this Christmas to anyone who enjoys the season. The stories take you away and make you feel like you are making new friends or reconnecting with old family memories. It's a quick read with each story only being a couple of pages long. And if there is someone in your life who is struggling to get the Christmas spirit, this book will help them feel the love and warmth that the holiday is all about.

You can find this and the other Chicken Soup for the Soul books at most major retailers, online at Amazon.com, or at the Chicken Soup for the Soul website.

Magic Cabin - Review and Giveaway

Magic Cabin is such a fun site! I absolutely love their great selection of unique and magical toys. The site is easy to navigate with options to shop by age or category. They also have a great section to help you purchase the perfect gift for someone special!

I have been browsing Magic Cabin's selection for awhile. There are so many items that I would love to get my daughter. I recently got the opportunity to pick an item for review and knew just which item was at the top of my list!
The Fairy Pop Up Tent is every little girls dream! It's a magical little space all their own where they can let their imaginations go wild! The tent is intended for indoor or outdoor use and is made from water resistant polyester. It also comes with a convenient carrying case, so you can take it on the go! Camping, sleepovers, Grandma's house... the uses for this tent are endless! But for us, we set it up in the playroom right away.....
This tent has been a HUGE hit! She loves to bring all her little buddies in and we have even had tea parties inside. It's a little tight with an adult and child inside, but would be perfect for two children! It's a great height and she can stand inside (for now... haha). It has two ways to get in and out and one side that is a cute little window. It also has a cute little flower that goes on the top. It's really just precious! And it's very sturdy.
It's very simple to assemble and take apart. It has a couple of rods that slide into the base for added stability. They are easy to put in and take out but are secure when they are in. The tent literally "pops up" and fold up easily into a small carrying bag. It's a great product and it's one that will last for years. It leaves so much room for imagination... I just love it! And it's very easy to clean with the nice surface that just wipes clean. I would definitely recommend this item! It retails for only $59.98.

This is just one of the many wonderful products offered by Magic Cabin. You can find lots of great things for boys and girls from babies to about 12 years old.

And if you shop today and pay for standard shipping... they will upgrade you to Express Shipping for FREE!

Last Minute Gift Idea - Icon Series 6mm Premium Headphones

I have the hardest time with headphones. I don't like the super hue ones that make you look like you stepped out of 1980, and my ears are too tiny for the little ones that you stick in your ear. They hurt when they are in and always end up falling out. So I had to get the kind that hook onto your ear and then the little piece goes inside your ear. These work ok for me, but the little piece still falls out of my ear often. But at least with the hook over my ear they don't fall to the ground every three seconds.

I was recently offered the opportunity to review the Icon Series 6mm Premium Headphones that are available exclusively through Amazon. Well, you know how much a I love Amazon, and I was interested to see if these would work better for me... so I went for it.

WOW. That's really all I can say. I have never tried anything more comfortable than these! They literally conform to the share of your ear so they stay in so well and don't hurt at all. And the sound quality is great. The music came through so clear. Here is a little more information about them:

Mini Size, Maximum Sound & Comfort
Every element of the Icon Series 6mm headphone is designed to provide maximum comfort and performance for everyday use - whether you're running a 10k or kicking back on the plane.
  • One of the smallest headphones in the world: the 6mm driver is smaller than a dime, ensures a comfortable fit and powerful sound
  • Lightweight and durable: the 1.6 oz aluminum alloy structure sustains the most rigorous activities
  • Soft silicone fittings: an elongated cone-shape creates a deep yet comfortable tight seal within the ear to block ambient noise
  • Custom fit: three sizes (S,M,L) of soft silicone fittings create a personalized feel
Audio Integrity
The Icon Series 6mm headphone maintains the music's intended sound by using premium materials and design innovation.
  • The new standard in driver technology: a magnesium-enriched dynamic driver is precisely molded to compliment the music while a powerful strontium rare earth magnet delivers deep yet balanced bass level
  • Unique soundstage: emphasizes crisp highs, a smooth mid-range, and rich bass across a full spectrum
  • Noise-isolating technology: passive noise isolation reduces ambient noise without introducing artificial sounds into your music
These are the perfect last minute gift. They are small and useful. I am loving mine and use them with my iPod and cell phone to listen to music. They would be great for running or exercising. And perfect for traveling. So many uses in such a tiny item! You should definitely check them out!

Baby Einstein Discovery Kits - Review

We've been watching Baby Einstein since my daughter was born. I had first learned about the DVD series a few years back when I was a babysitter and I was really impressed with how they presented music, colors, animals, and all kinds of other learning experiences for very young children. I also found it very interesting with how well these DVD's held the baby's attention.

Baby Einstein has now taken the learning experience a step further with their introduction of the Discovery Kits.

Baby Einstein, an award-winning leader of infant products,
unveils Baby Einstein Discovery Kits, an innovative new interactive experience
to help parents introduce babies to the beautiful music, nature and animals for which the
company’s products are known.  The first six Discovery Kits in the new collection each feature a
DVD, a music CD and a picture book or Discovery Cards, and with each element
complementing the others, the new kits give parents another way to interact with their babies.

I received the Wild Animal Safari Discovery Kit for review. The kit contains a DVD, CD, and animal discovery cards. This has been a hit in my house!

We began by watching the DVD that exposed my daughter to real animals, puppets, and children while also playing great music throughout.  We then took out the discovery cards and this was an amazing experience. I was truly impressed by how many animals my daughter recognized as she imitated their sounds after just looking at the picture. I was also impressed that she was making the connection between the real animal pictured on the card and some of her stuffed animals. I would show her the picture of the monkey and she ran over and got her Curious George stuffed animal. We had a great time interacting together and I told her some of the fun facts that are also listed on the card. I think these cards will be popular with her for years to come!

By them time we were done playing and interacting it was nap time. So I put the CD on for her while she napped. I think it was a wonderful experience for both of us!

I highly recommend that you check out this kit and the others available in this series. You can check it out on the Baby Einstein website for more information.

*I received this free Discovery Kit through a Click Communications/Baby Einstein program. However, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and no other monetary compensation took place.

A Holiday Treat - Fondue Recipe

I recently had the wonderful experience of dining at the Westwood, NJ Melting Pot. Everything from the service to the food was amazing. They are featuring a special fondue this holiday season and have been kind enough to share the recipe with me and you!

Bourbon Bacon Cheddar Fondue
Yield: 4-6 servings
2¾ cups (11 ounces) shredded Cheddar cheese
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup beer (light beer recommended)
4 teaspoons prepared horseradish
4 teaspoons dry mustard
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon bourbon
2 tablespoons chopped cooked bacon
2 teaspoons freshly ground pepper
4 teaspoons chopped scallions
1. Toss the cheese with the flour in a bowl.
2. Place a metal bowl over a saucepan filled with 2 inches of water. (Or use a conventional double boiler.) Bring the water to a boil over high heat.
3. Reduce the heat to medium. Pour the beer into the bowl. With a fork, stir in the horseradish, mustard and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
4. Add half the cheese mixture; cook until the cheese is melted, stirring constantly. Add the remaining cheese a small amount at a time, stirring constantly in a circular motion after each addition until the cheese is melted.
5. Pour the bourbon slowly around the edge of the bowl. Pull the cheese mixture away from the edge of the bowl; cook for about 30 seconds or until the alcohol cooks off. Stir the bourbon into the cheese. Fold in the bacon and pepper.
6. Pour into a warm fondue pot and keep warm over low heat. Garnish with scallions.

My husband and I are really excited to try making this for our holiday guests!

This recipe comes from their cookbook, "Dip into Something Different." This book is available at their store for only $29.95. This book of recipes would make a great holiday a gift, as would a gift card! I highly recommend The Melting Pot and couldn't suggest a better experience than the one at the Westwood, NJ location.

Rite Aid Photo Gifts - Review

I love photo gifts. I think they make such a personal gift that the person receiving will treasure forever. I have given a lot of photo gifts in the past, and now that I have a beautiful little girl everyone loves to get things with her picture on them. I have never ordered a photo gift from Rite Aid, but I have one right around the corner from my house so I was excited to give it a try!

For this review I was able to choose any two photo gifts that they offer. This was challenging since they have such a huge selection. They offer everything from coffee mugs and mouse pads to sweat shirts and pillows. They even have canvas prints in variety of sizes. I finally decided to order a Keepsake Box and a 16x20 Canvas Print.

The ordering process was very simple. I registered on the website and then uploaded some photos. Then I was able to put different photos in to see how they looked. I really liked that I could see what they would look like because I actually found a couple of pictures that didn't look good with the shape of the Keepsake Box.

I placed the order online and choose to do the in-store pick up. I then received an e-mail letting me know when my items had shipped. But I didn't receive a phone call when they arrived, I had to call and check in a few times to see if they were there yet. A phone call that they had arrived would have been great, but the e-mail gave me an estimated time of arrival (5-7 days) so I had an idea of when to start checking in.

The only issue I encountered was at pick up. I sent my husband to pick up the items and he came home empty handed saying they were insisting that he had to pay for the items. So I went back with the e-mail receipt in hand and they still wanted me to pay. I guess there was a mix-up somewhere. The receipt and the product had the same product number and they still did not want to give it to me without paying. After a long conversation they took a copy of my license, a copy of my receipt, and sent me on my way with my items. I felt a little uneasy leaving under those conditions but didn't know what else to do.

When I got home I opened the items and was very pleased. The quality was great and the pictures were super clean and beautiful. I am very happy with the results and would hope that with a normal order (as opposed to a review order like this one) the pick up process would be much smoother. I think I will give them another shot considering how happy I am with the products and how convenient their location is to me.

Skoy Cloths - Review and Giveaway

SKOY is an eco-friendly household cleaning cloth that outlasts 15 rolls of paper towels. This new approach to cleaning boasts a cloth that is 100% biodegradable, natural, and re-usable.  The SKOY cloth has an absorption factor of 15x its own weight, which makes it far superior than any other cloth on the market. SKOY is a durable cloth that is washer and dryer safe, which means it can be used over and over again.   This European-made product is non-toxic and utilizes original artwork designs to add fun as well as function to the kitchen or bathroom.
I was recently given the opportunity to review Skoy Cloths and I am so happy to share them with you! I love finding easy things that help me live a "greener" life. Using Skoy cloths is definitely one of those things. These cloths are great! I have a couple in the kitchen and one in each bathroom. I no longer use sponges! I love that you can use these for a little while and then throw them in the wash. It really saves you money and I feel like they are a more sanitary option. I really don't like sponges and I feel like they just hold onto germs and bacteria. So being able to just wash these cloths as often as I like is great!

I feel that Skoy Cloths are the way to go for a greener, healthier lifestyle. I also think it's a smarter financial investment. You can get 4 Skoy Cloths for only $6.99, and I said before, they can be washed and reused. They are very functional and can replace a variety of things. For me they are replacing sponges and almost all of my paper towel uses. They can also be used as washcloths and other towels. My husband wants a few for the garage so he can have them on hand.

Tassimo T20 Brewbot - Review and Giveaway!

Oh Happy Day! Look what the UPS man brought me......
I was beyond excited when I found out I was going to be able to review the very new and very cool Tassimo T20 Brewbot. If you read my blog you know all about my love.... need..... for coffee. It's a staple in our house and I often find myself wanting more midmorning and not feeling like making a pot. Or cleaning up from making a pot. I am also terrible at making coffee. My husband has to make it because I will bug him with "how many scoops do I put in?" "how much do I fill it up?" So the idea of being able to quickly and easily make a cup of coffee whenever I want with only having to clean my cup when I'm done is awesome!

But wait... it gets better. Not only can I make a cup of coffee whenever I want, but I can also make tea, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, espressos, lattes, and cremas with minimal effort and time. I think I'm in love!

When my Brewbot arrived I also found a box of Gevalia's Signature Blend Coffee and a box of Starbucks Cappuccino. I knew my first experiment was going to be the cappuccino! So I followed the quick and easy cleaning instructions and within a few minutes we were ready to brew. Check out my video below.

Oh yum! The cappuccino was so easy to make and tastes delicious. I love the foam on top. It's just like going to the local coffee shop but I can do this in my pajamas and without having to go out in the cold. Oh, and it will save me tons of money.

I think my husband got a little jealous watching me have all the fun, so he jumped in and made a cup of the Gevalia coffee. We might both be up all night... but it will have been worth it.

Ecomom Reusable Bags - Review and Giveaway

I write about Ecomom a lot. I do this for several reasons. The first is that I love their products. Each item they offer comes with all the health and safety information you want to know. They also carry the best possible organic and environmentally friendly products. My daughter basically lives on their organic toddler food because the Plum Tots veggie pouches are the only way we can get her to eat her vegetables.

Another reason is that they truly care what moms, dads, and all their customers think about their products and their service. They are always reachable and respond to e-mails quickly. They also ship incredibly fast! I've gotten shipment confirmations in the same day I have placed an order. And you can get FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50.

And my third, but probably not final, reason is that they are always offering great deals! Not only do they offer their customers discount codes and tons of giveaway opportunities, but they also have sales often and have a Daily Deal of the Day where you can get great products at unbelievable prices.

So as you can see, I am one happy customer. So when I was given the opportunity to review one of newest items they are offering I jumped at it! One of my steps toward a greener lifestyle is that I only use reusable shopping bags. It's an easy thing to do that makes a big difference. So I have a variety of free tote bags from this company or that company that live in the trunk of my car. Well good bye random tote bags!

Ecomom is now offering the LOVE Reusable Bags Chill Set! These reusable bags are stylish and sturdy. The set comes with one thermal cooler and then 3 shopping bags that fit nicely inside. They are very convenient and don't take up much space in the trunk at all. And I love having the cooler! I scan and shop at my food store, so I can put all my frozen products right into the cooler bag and not worry about them melting. Then I have three nice size shopping bags with handles that fit a lot of groceries. This set is all I need for my grocery shopping! And they all match and I look cool... .just an added bonus.

The set is available in several patterns and retails for $39.95. You can check it out HERE. And you can receive 15% off your first order by using the code SBBL165 now through December 31, 2010.

Ecomom is very active on facebook and twitter. They are always announcing sales, deals, and contests so be sure to follow them!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Book Review

Seth Grahame-Smith has joined forces with beloved author Jane Austen to create an entirely new classic tale: PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES! This book is so clever and fun, the perfect thing to read while your child is napping because you already know the story.  And the addition of zombies only makes the romance of Miss Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy all the more interesting.

The author has taken quite a few liberties with Miss Austen’s story, but the essence of the plot is quite true to the original book from 1813.  It really is amazing to see how an infestation of the undead and ninja-style zombie fighting fit right into this British novel.  I had a lot of fun reading the book, and caught myself laughing out loud a few times.  I really like the idea of adapting one classic novel and updating it with pop culture references that are so prevalent today.  Zombies are the new vampires!  My husband loves the new show on AMC, THE WALKING DEAD, and while I like that show, sometimes the zombie make-up is a little TOO realistic.  But PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is the perfect blend of Jane Austen, horror, and comedy all in one book.   I think both my husband and sister will enjoy reading it now that I’m done!

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES is available in stores and online now!  Treat yourself to the Deluxe Edition from Quirk Classics…this is a book that you will want to keep long after you’ve finished it. And Quirk Classics has even more in store for you with PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES: DAWN OF THE DREADFULS and SENSE AND SENSIBILITY AND SEA MONSTERS.

I definitely recommend you check this book out!

Fibers.com Review

Fibers.com is a really fun site that allows you to create custom t-shirts, hoodies, and more! I love this idea because it allows you to create the perfect item for someone on your list. I had a great time exploring this site because they have so many ideas and pre-made designs to offer. I love the I Heart t-shirts. They really have something for everyone in that category. They have a ton already made up, or you can create your own.

They also have some really clever family t-shirts. I laughed out loud when I saw a shirt that had "only child" crossed out and "big brother" written underneath it. How cute would that be for announcing a new addition? I also found a bunch of cute shirts for dads that I will be keeping in mind for father's day!

Fibers.com gave me the great opportunity to create my own shirt. The process is so easy and they really walk you through it. You can take ideas from their designs and change them up to fit your style, or you can start from scratch. You can change colors, text style, images, pretty much everything! I decided to go with one of their pre-existing templates that says "born to sleep," but decided to go in and change the colors. I took my favorite color (pink) and my husband's favorite color (orange) and created this really funny shirt. It's perfect for me because before I had my daughter sleeping was my favorite activity. I slept a lot and now I miss it, haha!

I love thee way it came out! I was a little concerned about the size because when I looked at the size chart I fell into the XL category. Usually I wear a medium or large in fitted t-shirts, so I was afraid this was going to be huge. But I followed their guide and ordered the XL and it fits really nicely. So definitely use their guide and don't go by your regular size.

The shirt seems to be a really nice quality. I've washed it a couple of times and the image still looks like new. It hasn't faded or peeled and it still fits nicely. I would recommend your check them out!

Mommy's Time-Out

It was just one of those days. I had gotten into a fight with Rite-Aid, my package didn't come from UPS, the baby tore through the house and left a disaster zone, and I was tired.... just plain tired. I had to run out to fight with Rite-Aid in person as soon as my husband got home. So when I walked in the door he greeted me with something fantastic.....

A Mommy's Time-Out wine glass from Lolita. I love the Lolita glasses and he has gotten me the engagement and princess martini glasses. So he must have been prepared for my next rough day.

This glass is adorable and has little sayings all over it like "let's play the quiet game" and "Ok kids, time for a video." I just took the glass and sat down. He then proceeded to tell me the baby needed a diaper... to which I replied "I'm in time-out."

You need one.
