Coke Inspired Family Meal Time

I think everyone has those special mealtime memories from being a kid. Something that was really special and really fun! Something you always looked forward to. For our family it was pizza night. Pizza night brought a few special things that didn't happen any other night of the week. It was really exciting for my sister and I to know that every Friday pizza night was coming!

We didn't drink too much soda in my house when we were younger. It was saved for special occasions, like holidays or parties. And pizza night! My dad always made sure that we had soda on pizza night. And what better flavor goes with pizza than Coke.

My dad being the awesome guy that he is, didn't let the fun stop when the pizza was gone. We would always have the big bottles of Coke, so after dinner we would take vanilla bean ice cream and make Coke floats! We would let the ice cream sit on the counter for a few minutes so it would get nice and soft. This way you could drink it with a straw. And then of course you top it off with some whip cream and a cherry! And every once in awhile he would really surprise us and bring home the old fashioned Coke bottles. He loved those because he always told us how it reminded him of his childhood.

I remember we used to have a refrigerator in the garage that was always stocked with drinks. Especially in the summer when my dad would be doing a lot of work in the yard and we would be playing outside. My dad would sometimes stock the fridge with those really cool old fashioned Coke bottles. That was a real taste of summer. We would get so excited to see them.

Pizza nights had such an impact on me as being a really fun family night, that my family has continued the tradition. Sometimes we order pizza, sometimes we make our own. But we always have Coke (or cherry Coke since that's a favorite in our house). And we always have tons of fun!

I'm excited for my daughter to get a little bit older so I can see the excitement in her when it comes to family pizza night. Some traditions are just meant to be kept alive, and this is definitely one of them. Pizza, Coke, and ice cream. What more could a kid, or an adult, want?

Man that brings back the memories for me too! We never got to drink much soda and when we did it was one glass of coke. And one of my faves was going to Pizza Hut and getting a personal pan pizza and a coke! =)

I never had a pizza Night when i was younger maybe because I wasn't born in the US but I sure hear fun stories from my husband when he was younger. We try to have pizza night but not as frequent :) we should start that again. Fun, fun and fun :) Thanks for sharing
